SRHS budget rejected
The budget for Shore Regional High School was defeated by 53 votes with 782 against to 729 in favor of the budget for the April 15 school elections.
The budget was voted down in three of the four sending districts and passed by only four votes in the third district.
Sea Bright overwhelmingly voted against the budget with 92 votes opposed to only 15 in favor of it. West Long Branch also voted against it with 275 votes in opposition to 252 in favor.
Monmouth Beach, the only one of the four sending districts that was to see a decrease in its tax rate to support the budget, barely passed the spending plan with 257 votes for it to 253 against it.
Oceanport passed it, with 205 to 162 votes. Only 12 percent of the registered voters in the four towns — 1,511 of 12, 695 — went to the polls.
