Register for NJMSC partnership by March 15

The New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium (NJMSC), Sandy Hook, has announced it will offer "A Partnership For Learning" for educators from New Jersey’s under-resourced urban and rural schools. The session will be March 28 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Sandy Hook, and application deadline is March 15.

The free marine education program provides ocean-based education opportunities for schools with limited resources. Teachers accepted will receive professional development training, a field trip for up to 50 students, student transportation reimbursement, classroom materials, and in-school support from NJMSC staff.

The NJMSC is also offering teacher workshops, beginning with "Marsh and Ocean" for teachers of grades K-5 March 25 or 29, and April 4 or 5. Middle school teachers may take the April 11 or April 12 session which stresses human use and interaction with wetland and beach environments.

"Mathematics and Marine Science" will be April 25 or 26 and is geared to K-8 teachers. It places emphasis on using marine science themes to enliven math and science lessons.

The Sandy Hook workshops are supported by the New Jersey Statewide Systemic Initiative. Each teacher completing the workshop will receive a certificate for six hours of professional development training. Fees are $40 per person per session, with fees waived for teachers in Abbott school districts.
