FERN PFOHL LaPOINTE, 91, of Baraboo, Wis., died Nov. 26 at St. Clare Meadows, Baraboo. Born in Sheridan, Wyo., she lived in several states, Germany and West Long Branch prior to moving to Baraboo, Wis. She was a court reporter and secretary for the American prosecuting attorneys at the Nuremberg war crimes trials. Prior to that, she worked at federal civil service jobs in San Francisco, Calif., and Baltimore, Md.; and at the Oregon State Accident Commission, Salem. Following her marriage, she became an Army wife and retired and moved extensively with her husband. Her activities included reading literature, spending time with her family, watching old movies, and playing with her dogs. She was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Manwiller. She is survived by her husband, Frank LaPointe of Baraboo; her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Chuck Brei of Madison, Wis.; and one grandson. GEORGE J. McCARRON, 83, of South Amboy died Nov. 29 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy. Born in Jersey City, he resided in South Amboy the past 32 years. He was a die maker at J & P B Myers, Moonachie, for 55 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, South Amboy. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant. He also served in the southwest Pacific theatre, the New Guinea campaign and southern Philippines campaign. He was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. He was predeceased by a sister, Loretta Behninger; his step-brother, Joseph Hagen; and a son-in-law, Edward F. Dolan. He is survived by his wife of 60 yeas, Margaret Rand McCarron of South Amboy; five sons and four daughters-in-law, George McCarron of Long Branch; Robert and Linda McCarron of West Allenhurst; William and Ann McCarron of the Dayton section of South Brunswick; Peter and Carol McCarron of Howell; and Mark and Joanne McCarron of Centerville, Va.; two daughters, Regina Dolan of Spring, Texas, and Bernadette McCarron of Falls Church, Va.; his sister, Anna Wanagiel of Jersey City; and eight grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, South Amboy.
LILLIAN B. MURPHY, 73, of Freehold died Nov. 29 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in the Oakhurst section of Ocean Township, she resided in Freehold since 1950. She was a secretary at First Union Bank, Freehold, for more than 20 years, retiring in 1989. She attended Pierce Memorial Presbyterian Church, Farmingdale. Her activities included performing volunteer work for the Monmouth County Historical Association, Freehold. She is survived by her husband, Dewey Murphy of Freehold; two daughters and one son-in-law, Carol A. Murphy-Formanek of Freehold, and Linda L. and Karl Landon of Easton, Pa.; her brother, Oscar Borufsen of Melfa, Ala.; and her sister, Laura Patterson of Surf City, S.C. ROBERT A. MORGAN, 43, of Keansburg died Nov. 28 at home. Born in Red Bank, he was a lifelong resident of Keansburg. Mr. Morgan was a concierge at a cooperative building in New York City. Prior to that, he worked at Radio City Music Hall, New York City, and at Cafe Bar and Restaurant, Long Branch. He was a communicant of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. Politically active, he previously served as a councilman and deputy mayor for the Borough of Keansburg, commissioner for the Keansburg Municipal Utilities Authority, and was the Keansburg Democratic municipal chairman. He was also a current member of the Monmouth County Democratic Executive Committee, Keansburg Board of Health, Keansburg Recreation Committee, and the Save the Bay Committee. He served as a campaign manager in borough council elections, where he had been a campaign worker since his early teens. He was a delegate, shop steward and sergeant-at-arms for the International Service Employees Union Local 32. His volunteer activities included Ronald McDonald House and Clean Ocean Action. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Mary Haviland Morgan; and two brothers, James Morgan and Sonny Morgan. He is survived by four brothers, Richard Morgan of Middletown, Dennis Morgan of California, Daniel Morgan of Pennsylvania, and Jack Morgan of New Jersey; five sisters, Cathy Quilty and Patricia Cryan, both of Florida, Elizabeth Liu and Lorraine Kearny, both of Long Branch, and Carol Parsons of Keansburg. FLORENCE K. RUBINO SCARPINO, 82, of Oceanport died Nov. 30 at home. Born in Long Branch, Mrs. Scarpino was a lifelong resident of various shore towns. She was a parishioner at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. She was predeceased by a grandson, Scott Bifulco, in 2001; a brother, Frank Rubino; and a sister, Lena DePaola. Mrs. Scarpino is survived by her husband of 57 years, James A. Scarpino of Oceanport; her son, Charles J. Scarpino of Long Branch; her daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Thomas Bifulco of Ocean Township; three brothers, Peter Rubino of West Long Branch, and John Rubino and Dominick Rubino Jr., both of Long Branch; three sisters, Frances Calabretta of West Long Branch, and Mary Sorrentino and Josephine De Fazio, both Long Branch; and two grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Trinity Church, followed by entombment at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport.
RALPH G. ADAMS, 87, of Tinton Falls died Dec. 3 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Needham, Mass., he resided in Tinton Falls for more than 40 years. He was an electrical engineer at Bendix Corp., Eatontown, for 42 years, retiring as director of quality control in 1981. He was a 1938 graduate of MIT, Cambridge, Mass. He attended St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He is survived by his wife, Grace McCreesh Adams of Tinton Falls; a stepdaughter, Anne Cyriacks of the Belford section of Middletown; a stepson, Michael Hilger of Middle Island, N.Y.; a sister, Muriel Gatto of Needham, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A funeral gathering will be held Dec. 6 at 8:45 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral liturgy will follow at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
