Governor’s Awards given to Long Branch students

Two Long Branch High School students received the Governor’s Award in Arts Education at a recent ceremony at the War Memorial Building, Trenton.

Christopher Haley and Monica Zimmerman, both from Long Branch, were among the 80 students to receive awards.

Ellen Schechter, assistant commissioner for the Division of Academic and Career Standards, and a co-presenter of the awards, said, "Anyone who has experienced the thrill of performing or creating would agree our lives are enriched by arts experiences."

The awards were designed to promote awareness and appreciation of the arts by recognizing the outstanding arts achievement of students, educators and other leaders in New Jersey.

Students were selected for their exemplary work in creative writing, music, theater and the visual arts.
