      The Arc of Monmouth
      receives $5M from state

The Arc of Monmouth, Tinton Falls, has received new appropriations totaling $5 million from the state. The funds for The Arc’s Work Opportunity Center’s program, were included in the budget for the fiscal year 2002, signed June 29 by acting Gov. Donald DiFrancesco.

Association for Choices in Community Supports and Employment Services (ACCESS N.J.), a statewide organization of which Arc is a member, had sought additional funding over the past few months.

The campaign’s highlight was a June rally at the statehouse in an appeal to the Legislature and the governor to save work programs for the developmentally disabled.

The Arc assists the developmentally disabled in finding jobs in the community. Individuals with the most severe disabilities who cannot or choose not to enter employment in the community often remain at The Arc’s Work Opportunity Center, Long Branch, for lengthy periods of time under extended employment programs.

For more information about The Arc, call the development office at (732) 493-1919.
